Why a Bed Should Be the Number One Investment in Your Home

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Some people think that they can buy the cheapest bed they can find when they go shopping for a new bed. But a bed is the most important investment that you will make for your home, and it is worth making sure that you find the right one first time around. This article looks at why a good quality mattress such as a Sealy mattress or a Silentnight mattress is such an important investment.

There are lots of things we are prepared to invest a bit more money on in our homes including TVs, microwaves and washing machines. However, by far the most important investment should be your bed. Here’s why.

We Spend a Third of Our Lives Sleeping

If you compared the time spent sleeping to other activities such as watching TV, you would see that you spend a lot more time sleeping than practically any other single activity. Why are so many people so concerned about getting the biggest, most expensive TV they can find when they don’t worry about what they sleep on?

If we spend so much time in one single activity then it simply makes sense to make that activity the most enjoyable and comfortable that it can be. Think how many hours you will use a bed over the course of five or ten years. Isn’t that worth a big investment?

A Good Bed Will Last for Years

A good bed made by a well-established company, such as a Silentnight mattress or Sealy mattress, will last you many years. Beds are not like new gadgets in that they are actually designed to last. A good bed can last 10 years or even more before you need to buy a new one.

Which makes more sense, to buy a cheap bed and then another one after a few years, both of which will provide an inferior night’s sleep, or to purchase a really good bed from the outset which will cost less in total and will provide a better night’s sleep?

Your Quality of Sleep Affects You During the Day

One of the reasons people don’t want to spend money on a Silentnight mattress or another more expensive mattress is that they cannot enjoy the experience of using them because they are asleep. However, your quality of sleep affects you during the day. A really good bed will provide you with a great night’s sleep and you will feel better during the rest of the day as a result.

Sleeping comfortably is especially important if you have any injuries which prevent you from sleeping soundly, and a quality bed can go a long way to alleviating this.

Sleep Peacefully with a Better Bed

Don’t think that an expensive bed is not a good investment. Remember that you get what you pay for with a bed and it is by far the most important investment in your home. Make sure you take the time to choose one carefully, and opting for a good-quality bed such as a Miracoil mattress or a Sealy mattress means you will end up with a bed which will provide you with many comfortable nights of sleep for many years to come.

Memory Foam Mattresses

Are you thinking of treating yourself to a memory foam mattress? Would you like to know the major differences between a foam and memory foam mattress? If so, read on…

A regular foam mattress has closed cell foam, for the most part and the closed cells trap air as it heats up and doesn’t release it. Therefore causing the unfortunate sleeper to get too hot! Not an ideal situation in the middle of summer! I think this is the reason memory foam has gotten a reputation for sleeping hot is from people’s experiences with old fashioned foam.

Visco elastic memory foam is, by nature, open celled which means that the air travels from cell to cell as you apply pressure to it. This action allows the air to expel and be replaced by air from the room. Replacing the air that’s in these cells tends to give you a much cooler night sleeping on a memory foam mattress than on a foam mattress.

Another major difference is the slow recovery feature of memory foam. The greatest difference in the two is the ability of memory foam to soften under the places where your body heat affects it. This is what makes memory foam so comfortable. If you have an injury, you’ll definitely notice softness under the injured part of your body because injuries are normally accompanied by fevered heat and this extra heat will cause the mattress material to soften even further under your injured body part.

Most people are unaware of the massive advances made in mattress technology – there was a time when one mattress was the same as the others, but that time has long since passed. One of the newest mattresses on the market is the Memory Foam Mattress; it has been globally hailed as the most evolved mattress money can buy.

Every body (and everybody) is different. We all experience different aches and pains and our mattress should reflect and adapt to our own body shape. Memory Foam Mattresses (as the name suggests) have a memory, they learn which areas of your body need more firmness and which areas need more give. Sleeping with this fundamental body support means that you don’t need as much sleep because the relaxation you feel is total and will revitalise you much faster than other mattress can.
