Are you thinking of treating yourself to a memory foam mattress? Would you like to know the major differences between a foam and memory foam mattress? If so, read on…

A regular foam mattress has closed cell foam, for the most part and the closed cells trap air as it heats up and doesn’t release it. Therefore causing the unfortunate sleeper to get too hot! Not an ideal situation in the middle of summer! I think this is the reason memory foam has gotten a reputation for sleeping hot is from people’s experiences with old fashioned foam.

Visco elastic memory foam is, by nature, open celled which means that the air travels from cell to cell as you apply pressure to it. This action allows the air to expel and be replaced by air from the room. Replacing the air that’s in these cells tends to give you a much cooler night sleeping on a memory foam mattress than on a foam mattress.

Another major difference is the slow recovery feature of memory foam. The greatest difference in the two is the ability of memory foam to soften under the places where your body heat affects it. This is what makes memory foam so comfortable. If you have an injury, you’ll definitely notice softness under the injured part of your body because injuries are normally accompanied by fevered heat and this extra heat will cause the mattress material to soften even further under your injured body part.

One of the newest mattresses on the market is the Memory Foam Mattress; it has been globally hailed as the most evolved mattress money can buy.

Every body (and everybody) is different. We all experience different aches and pains and our mattress should reflect and adapt to our own body shape. Memory Foam Mattresses (as the name suggests) have a memory, they learn which areas of your body need more firmness and which areas need more give. Sleeping with this fundamental body support means that you don’t need as much sleep because the relaxation you feel is total and will revitalise you much faster than other mattress can.

Memory foam was developed in 1966 under a contract by NASA’s Ames Research Center to improve the safety of aircraft cushions and it is now being used in Silent night mattresses. Memory foam is polyurethane with additional chemicals increasing its viscosity and density. It is often referred to as visco-elastic polyurethane foam. It is firmer and cooler than an average mattress.

Higher density memory foam reacts to body heat, allowing it to mould to a warm human body in a few minutes. A lower density memory foam is pressure-sensitive and moulds quickly to the shape of the body. A memory foam mattress is usually denser than other foam mattresses. This makes it more supportive but also heavier. It is often seen as a good compromise between the comfort of a soft mattress and the support of a firm one.

Memory foam mattresses appeal to people suffering from sleep problems and for home owners who desire opulence and comfort in the bedroom.

Memory foam mattresses could be the answer to your sleeping problems. If you are consistently waking up feeling sore, stiff and tired as a result you probably need a new mattress. Lack of sleep can be really tortuous and a solution needs to be found as quickly as possible to avoid further distress. Memory foam mattresses provide the answer to a better night’s sleep for many former insomniacs.

The problem for many people experiencing difficulty with sleeping is that the mattress they are sleeping on does not distribute their weight equally across the bed and as a result points of pressure are created particularly on the hip, knee, neck, elbow and ankle and it is this that causes soreness, stiffness and aches in the morning. Memory foam mattresses dispel this problem by distributing the sleepers’ weight, relieving pressure on the joints and dispersing points of pressure and pain.

These mattresses mould to the shape of your body, giving and sinking more deeply in the areas where there is more pressure, such as the hip. The mattresses revert back to their shape when you get up and do not maintain the body impression left from the night before, so when you sleep in a different position the next night, the mattress will remould and provide comfort in the new sleeping position.

Even if you are not suffering from sleeping problems memory foam mattresses are a great luxury item for any household and any person looking to enjoy the ultimate in bedroom comfort.
