Sleep in the news
As predicted, sleep is proving to be one of the hottest topics of 2011, and the press has been particularly interested in the subject of late.

Below are some examples of some of the stories and our suggestions on how best to make use of them. If sleep is high on the list of things that the press and people in general like to talk about, then it follows that the subject of beds shouldn’t be too far away – which is where you come in!

We as an industry need to be reminding consumers that while a good bed regularly replaced might not be the answer to all our sleeping problems, it is a very real and viable solution in many cases. If we don’t tell them, how will they know?

A good night’s rest really does help you make important decisions - Daily Mail (click here for full story)

In referencing this story, you might want to point out to any potential customers that the good sleep you get from a good, regularly replaced mattress isn’t luxury: it’s an essential part of our everyday lives.

Heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes…why lack of sleep is much worse for women - Daily Mail (click here for full story)

More proof that a good bed is vitally important to women, who happen to be the key decision makers we should be targeting with our sales messages. This is a great opportunity, then, to remind women in particular that a good new mattress is as important an investment in their wellbeing as money spent on healthy foods and an active lifestyle.

Why that weekend lie-in doesn’t work after days with just six hours’ sleep - Daily Mail (click here for full story)

Another story supporting the importance of keeping regular sleep patterns. Evidence suggests that people are actually choosing to only go to bed for six hours per night – so they had better make sure that it’s quality sleep they’re getting , which they’ll only get by sleeping on a good bed less than seven-years-old!

A woman’s sleep pattern is key to marital bliss - Marie Claire (click here for full story)

Ah, we knew it… women hold all the cards. Thank goodness they’re our key customers, not the men! Of course not all marriage problems are caused by lack of sleep, but common sense dictates that tired couples are very likely to fight more. A good, new mattress that suits both parties is a must (please see and download our most recent ‘Wedded Bliss’ and ‘I Do’ advertising toolkits).

Good to see that a good night’s sleep is getting as much credit as nutrition and exercise in relation to general health and wellbeing. People need the best possible tools to achieve their goals: and in the case of getting a good night’s sleep, the tool they need is the best possible bed!

Which is the Right Bedstead for You?

Monday, January 24th, 2011

A good bedstead is essential when it comes to positioning your mattress correctly. You can have the best mattress that money can buy, but if you place it on top of a poor-quality bedstead then you can kiss goodbye to a good night’s sleep. Here are a few factors that you should consider when looking for the right bedstead.

Material

This is often the first thing that people decide upon when choosing a bedstead. Bedsteads come in a whole range of materials, including leather bedsteads, wooden bedsteads and metal bedsteads. Whereas wooden bedsteads are more traditional, many people choose metal bedsteads because they are more durable. Leather bedsteads are often seen as more stylish, and they are also easy to clean. But whatever material you choose, you will want it to fit in with the surroundings, so choose the one that best suits the room.

Quality

Whether you opt for leather bedsteads or metal bedsteads, you should always choose a quality brand. Bedsteads are not just for decoration and they play a huge role in the comfort of your bed, so only choose a bedstead from an established company to ensure you get a good night’s sleep.

Height

Leather bedsteads and metal bedsteads come in a range of heights, and it is important to choose the right height for you. Remember to make your decision based on the height of the bedstead with the mattress on top, and then work out which height feels most comfortable for you.

Mobility

If you need a bedstead that is mobile then it’s a good option to go with one that has wheels. This will make it much easier to move from room to room and to clean around the bedstead if this is going to be important. Some leather bedsteads and metal bedsteads come with wheels, so make sure you consider this.

Choose Your Bedstead with Care

Purchasing metal bedsteads or leather bedsteads should always be done carefully as the bedstead is a very important part of the bed and will directly affect your comfort levels. Focus on the above factors to ensure that you get the right bedstead for you which will support the mattress and lead to a comfy night’s sleep.

Which is the Right Bedstead for You?

A bedstead is more than just a fashion accessory and plays a large role in the comfort of the bed. Make sure you choose your new bedstead carefully by considering these factors.

Beds and Mattresses

Too Small

Many people think that their bed is the right size, but actually in a lot of cases it is too small. When you visit the showroom, lie down on your chosen bed and stretch your arms and legs out as far as possible. If the bed is the right size then no part of you should stick off the end of the mattress. When you buy a Silentnight mattress or any other type of mattress, remember that although it can never be too big, if it is too small you will regret it.

Too Cheap

You are going to spend a large proportion of your life on your new mattress, so you should always think of it as an important investment. Cheap mattresses do not provide the same levels of comfort or support as more expensive mattresses, and they have to be replaced more often. A quality mattress from a reputable brand such as a Silentnight or Sealy mattress is not going to be cheap, but it will provide you with years of sound nights of sleep and will be well worth the investment.

Choose Your Mattress Wisely

Choosing a mattress is an important decision, and you should take your time to choose the right mattress for you. Whether you buy a full divan bed, Silentnight mattress or any other kind of mattress, make sure that you don’t make the two mistakes above and you will enjoy peaceful nights for years to come.
