I have never really given a lot of thought to my bed. I just thought a bed was a bed was a bed. I’ve been to posh hotels and slept in some very, very nice beds, I have also been in hostels and slept in some very, very nasty beds, and I’ve slept on sofas, in tents and on floors. I’m lucky; I always seem to get a good night’s sleep. So when my girlfriend and I took the plunge and decided to move in together I just assumed we’d use my bed as she rented a fully furnished flat and didn’t own her own bed. Well never before have I seen a foot so firmly put down.
So we went bed shopping. For my lovely girlfriend, this was a very serious mission. Hours of research, reams of printouts, articles cut out of many a magazine and newspaper and a month of traipsing around furniture shops. I won’t exaggerate: I hated it.
Anyway we finally settled on a bed with a Sealy Mattress, a Sealy Posturepedic Mattress to be exact, not too shabby. You know I’m almost tempted to tell you it was worth the month of pain in order to finally sleep on this piece of kit. It is fantastic, I have never slept better and I have never woken up so energised.
Unfortunately a couple of months later my girlfriend and I split up, and she took the bed. I don’t know what upset me more. Actually I do, it was the loss of the bed. The following weekend I picked up a brand new Sealy Posturepedic Mattress. Guess what I picked up the weekend after?
